SUSTAINABILITY, TECHNOLOGY, AND CITIES AT THE HEART OF THE HAY FESTIVAL SEGOVIA 2020

Martha Thorne and Stephanie Chaltiel on stage during the Hay Festival

IE A&D, a long time partner of the Hay Festival Segovia along with the international humanities and cultural festival, took part in two different conversations.

The afternoon of Friday, September 18 started with Vertical Gardens: Innovation and Urban Ecosystems, a conversation between French architect Stephanie Chaltiel and Dean Martha Thorne. Stephanie focused on the important and sustainable role that technology plays in construction:

"Scaling up is possible with technologies such as drones. Using technologies is practical, safe, cheap, and fast, especially when you are involved in iconic events such as biennales."

The next conversation, Making Sustainable Cities, was between North American landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson and Dean Martha Thorne. Kathryn stressed the importance of making our cities healthier:

"We need to bring the landscape into the city so that citizens don't feel the need to relocate to find it. It is important for all different age groups to go outside of their house and be at home."

You can re-watch both conversations via IE University's YouTube channel.
