IE School of Architecture and Design is accepting entries for the fifth edition of the IE Architecture+ Prize as part of our mission to attract top talent from around the world, competition winners will receive IE Scholarship towards tuition in the Master in Strategic Design of Spaces and the Master in Architectural Management and Design for the forthcoming academic year commencing in February 2019.

IE School of Architecture and Design will have a stand at the 2018 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Conference on Architecture as the only European institution.

Martha Thorne, Dean of the School, will take part in the panel discussion titled I Have My Degree...Now How Do I Find a Job? aimed at soon-to-be graduates or those starting their careers in architecture. 
Martha will be joined by specialists from different fields such as education, HR and architecture firms. The conversation will be moderated by Elizabeth Seidel, Vice President of the American Institute of Architecture Students

Students completing the IE Bachelor in Architecture program will participate in the graduation ceremony with students from all five IE Schools at the IE Campus in Segovia.

On May 31 the fifth-year students presented their final thesis projects. This time round, they were challenged to develop architectural research around the topic Architecture and Tourism and apply it within the specific context of Santiago de Compostela

Speakers Franquibel Lima, Design Director at WeWork; Jeremy Myerson, professor in the Master in Strategic Design of Spaces and Director of the Helen Hamlyn Center of Design; and Jack Pringle, Regional Director for Europe and EMEA Regions at Perkins and Will Architects will share their opinions and knowledge.

The first Master's in Real Estate Development class will celebrate the completion of their studies at the IE Graduation Ceremony on July 20 at IFEMA.

The event will bring together family, friends and professors of about 1000 students from the five Schools at IE in a ceremony with commencement speeches by Mr Saad Hariri, President of the Council of Ministers of Lebanon, and Gillian Tans, President and Chief Executive Officer of Booking.com.

IE School of Architecture and Design is taking part in the Undergraduate and Graduate IE Summer School programs which take place from 2 to 20 of July.

Architecture and Design sessions as part of the Graduate Summer School program will be led by Aino Hanttu, professor in the Bachelor in Design, and Marina Fornes, Creativity Booster at in-mocion

For the Undergraduate program, David Goodman and Edgar GonzálezDirectors of the Bachelor in Architecture and the Bachelor in Design respectively, Fab Lab Coordinator Elena Cardiel and alumnus Ismael Fernández will show attendees how to apply the "learning by doing methodology" by developing a project from brief to final presentation and implementing the innovative tools and technologies from the IE FabLab.

The Power of 10: Bronze Prize at 2018 Laus Awards

The poster for the The Power of Ten lecture series has been awarded the Bronze Trophy in its category at the 48th Edition of the Laus Awards for Graphic Design and Audiovisual Communication organized by Spain’s Association for Graphic Designers.

The poster was designed by the 2x4 Madrid studio under the leadership of Jeffrey Ludlow, professor in the Bachelor in Design and the Master in Strategic Design of Spaces.

Martha Thorne @ AR&PA

Martha ThorneDean of IE School of Architecture and Design, will serve on the honorary committee of the XI International AR&PA Congress in November 2018 organized by the Consejería de Cultura y Turismo de la Junta de Castilla y León and the Universidad de Valladolid.

The tenth edition of the Congress, under the title El Papel del Patrimonio Cultural en la Construcción de la Europa de los Ciudadanos (The Role of Cultural Heritage in the Construction of Europe for its Citizens), claims that cultural heritage has to be "living"; to provide a shared-memory for people from different backgrounds who live together in Europe, and that this must be reflected in buildings, historic quarters and archeological sites.

Lola Hoya, EMEIA Design & Framework Manager @ Ernst and Young

Lola Hoya graduated from the IE Master in Strategic Design of Spaces in February 2017 at the age of 25 and began working as a workplace strategy and design consultant and project manager at JLL Spain.
 
She is currently working as EMEIA Design and Framework Manager at Ernst and Young (EY) and was recognized as one of IE’s Young and Ambitions Minds by our colleagues from the IE Global Alumni Relations in the most recent edition of the EPIC Alumni Awards.
 
We asked Lola about her job, her experience at IE and her goals. Here’s what she told us!

Farshid Moussavi: OBE


Farshid Moussavi, Guest Speaker at IE School of Architecture and Design's The Power of Ten Lecture Series and Architect and Founder of Farshid Moussavi Architecture, has been handed an OBE in this year’s Queen’s birthday honors list for architecture services.

The OBE, the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry that rewards outstanding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organizations, and public service outside the Civil service.

Flatware is an innovative set of table-service utensils designed in low relief out of a 6mm compact phenolic board, a highly stable and resistant material.
