Agenda
MBArch Q&A Session with Director and Alumni
4 December - 6.00pm
Online
Join Jerónimo van Schendel, Director of the Master in Business for Architecture and Design, and alumni from the program for an opportunity to talk about why the master is right for you.
Feel free to ask any questions and share your motivations and professional goals with them!
Joseph Pistrui, entrepreneurial expert and professor in several program at IE A&D, will share what it takes to be an entrepreneur in different contexts.
Everything we do today affects our world tomorrow. The processes that architects and designers use to understand a current situation, propose ideas for the future, and evaluate them, allows us to understand and measure impacts. The key to sustainability is this holistic understanding of the changes that we will cause and taking actions to reduce the negative impacts while proposing and implementing positive ones.
IE School of Architecture and Design will organize The "S" Factor on December 3rd, a series of short talks and a Q&A session dealing with the meaning of sustainability as related to the built environment, especially to our cities. The event will be led by Dean Martha Thorne and faculty of the School, and it is comprised within the IE Sustainable Impact agenda.
Joel Blanco, professor of Global Challenges in the IE Bachelor in Design, was awarded the Lovisual Prize for the installation Super Body Positive.
Lovisual is a cultural association based in Logroño, La Rioja, that links local small businesses and designers through installations in façades and windows to highlight the work of both parts.
Joel's project promotes a body-positive attitude, a more inclusive belief that celebrates diverging beauties and minorities. He undertook this by changing the physical appearance of the manikins in the show window of a local shop more in tune with real people.
Jordanian architect Dana Nayef Alfayez began her professional career working for others in architecture practices. Realizing that her goals were really to pursue her own business, she joined the IE Master in Business for Architecture and Design, completing her degree earlier this year.
It was during the program that she noticed that even the smallest spaces can unleash huge potential, and she started her space-sharing venue: NOMAD. This business based between Madrid and Jordan provides temporary affordable spaces for communities of entrepreneurs to bring their ideas to life.
Dana has recently completed her participation in the Venture Lab, organized by the IE Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center, finishing as one of the semifinalists of the year.

Jeanne Gang discusses the Newly Completed Solar Carve Tower in New York
Chicago architect Jeanne Gang and founding principal of Studio Gang, was one of the internationally recognized speakers at IE School of Architecture and Design during the Hay Festival.
In a public dialog, she shared her approach to architecture and her belief that can and should be a powerful setting for creating community.
She was interviewed by Suzanne Stephens, senior editor at Architectural Record, about her latest project in New York: the Solar Carve building.
With a view over the Hudson River, the Solar Carve building is more than an office building with a dramatic façade, it is a sustainable project that creates outdoor spaces open for all and so necessary in New York City.
