Open House is an initiative that opens the doors of buildings, workspaces and places of residence that are not usually open to the public. Visitors are invited to explore these places that illustrate the importance of design and our built environment.
The Paper Pavilion, the only building by Pritzker 2014 laureate Shigeru Ban in Spain, will be included in the Open House Madrid 2018 agenda.

IE School of Architecture and Design will host its 1st Annual Research Colloquium at the Paper Pavilion to highlight research undertaken by the faculty of our School.
The format of the event will include keynote presentations and panel discussions geared to exploring the thinking behind their work and exchanging ideas on a variety of projects ranging from sustainability to history.

Bachelor Students Welcoming
|
|
Students, faculty and staff gathered on September 12th to welcome our incoming bachelor students.
To kick off the event, David Goodman, Director of the Bachelor in Architectural Studies and Edgar González, Director of the Bachelor in Design recognized outstanding achievement in Design Studio courses from the 2017-2018 academic year by handing out Design Excellence Awards for the best projects.
Following this, a festive time was had by all with a book swap and pizza party where students and faculty enjoyed meeting and conversing with both new and returning colleagues.

The Internship Experience
|

A unique aspect of the Bachelor in Architectural Studies offered to third and fourth year students is the opportunity to study and gain experience at the same time thanks to the internship program.
Ángela Ruíz, professor and Internship Program Coordinator at the Bachelor in Architectural Studies, explains how our program contributes to a deeper understanding of academic learning and gives students diverse professional experiences, which give them a head start on their careers upon graduation.

Jale Sari is originally from Turkey where she completed her studies as an Urban Designer and Landscape Architect. With a desire for more education and international experiences, she moved to Germany to undertake a Master of Landscape Architecture. Finally, she came to IE School of Architecture and Design and graduated with a Master in Strategic Design of Spaces in March 2017.
Jale is currently a Chartered Landscape Architect based in Perkins and Will's office in Dubai. Previously she worked at AECOM and Gensler located in the United Arab Emirates.

For this reason, and beyond the superficial and cosmetic use of plants in the office, Guzmán de Yarza, Director of the Master in Strategic Design of Spaces, analyzes the relationship between nature and the corporate world from a historical perspective.

Andrea Caruso: Eyewear Collection

Andrea Caruso, professor in the Bachelor in Design, Master in Strategic Design of Spaces and co-founder of the design studio Ciszak Dalmas has collaborated with Nina Mûr eyewear and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum to launch a limited edition collection of fashionable eye glasses.
Ciszak Dalmas took inspiration from baroque paintings from the museum's collections but used a combination of resin, minerals and other modern materials to produce classic yet contemporary finishes.
The eyewear is available at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and on Nina Mûr
